Join me in the fight against breast cancer

My mother in law is truly amazing 🙂 She’s walking 60 miles along with her best friend Gwen in three days to raise awareness and help find the cure for breast cancer.

There are times in your life that you think you can prepare for. I was sure that if a doctor ever had really bad news, I could take it. Well, I was wrong. When you sit across the table and the doctor uses those word that mean cancer, you are not prepared. (Why can’t they come right out and say it?) That was almost six years ago.

Gwen, Ken and AletaToday, with the help and support of my wonderful husband and family, I am healthy and strong. Last year I decided that I wasn’t going to wait anymore. I would do something to fight back. So I began a journey of 60 miles to fight cancer.

Along the way I found out that this was more than a 60 mile walk. I have walked enough in my training walks to equal the distance from Chicago, Illinois to Fargo, North Dakota.

I have met wonderful people as I trained for this walk and on the walk itself.

Sixty miles in three days seems like a lot. People ask how can I do this. I respond to them, How could I not.

When my husband and I told our two beautiful daughters that I had cancer, I looked into eyes that love and support me, but under that was fear. Would they lose their Mom and could this be something genitic that they might have to deal with themselves?

I told them I wasn’t going to die. And, now I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that cancer never touches their lives again.

I will walk! I will raise money! I will do what ever I can to keep my daughters and sons-in-law and your children safe from cancer.Gwen and Aleta

I am going to walk the 60 miles again this year. This year I want to raise even more money. Last year I said I wanted to see a sign that I was making a difference. Just about the time that I was on the walk the news broke that scientist had found a genetic marker for one type of breast cancer. We are making progress. We will find a cure.

Until we do we will keep funding research and supporting testing for men and women who can’t afford it.

Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer!
